This is a question we recently received (edited for privacy) and I thought this might be helpful to other people:

A fellow student and I were in the process of starting a shooting club at our school with some of the teachers and staff as the sponsors of the club.  Upon seeing the Scholastic Shooting Trust video on Youtube, I recognized this program as an opportunity to get the club on its feet.  In the video, Mr. Potterfield said that part of the mission of this program is to help teams get on their feet.  I guess what I am trying to ask is how do we get started and could or should we get started with your help? The next step is, after we get started, how do we register and get involved in your program?

Thank you for the email.  The mission of the Scholastic Shooting Trust Fund is to raise money for competitive shooting teams, invest it  and distribute the earnings.  This provides a long-term funding base for shooting teams and assures their financial stability.

If your school isn't listed in our database or if your team information isn't included, I need some information:

School name:

Address:

Number of students:

Grade levels (e.g. 9-12):

Shooting Discipline (smallbore, air rifle, shotgun?):

Coach/Sponsor:

Coach contact information:

Once your school is in the database, you can use the website as a place for folks to donate money to support the team.  The SST grants back 5% of the initial donation and invests the remaining 95%, and then distributes the earnings each year.  We have some information under “Forms” your team can use as marketing.  And you can link your team website to your school page on the SST website (the Yale Pistol Team did that last fall.)  Of course, you are always welcome to contact us with questions.

Good luck with your team.
